Ready, set, go! Fill in the blank.
For me, this week is going to be amazing because it is, in my opinion, the unofficial start of spring. This is one of my favorite week’s of the year because it’s the first full week of March and when I flip the calendar to March I feel like spring is truly right around the corner. This makes me so happy because I love everything about this season. Well, except maybe the never-ending rain.
I love the longer days, warmer temperatures, budding flowers and return of the color green to northern Pennsylvania. I love the baseball games, spring concerts, dance recitals and art shows. I love celebrating birthdays, Easter, and our anniversary. I love family bike rides, hikes in the woods, the first campfire of the season and long runs (often in the rain). I love planting my garden, enjoying those first fresh spring vegetables and seeing my neighbors once again out and about on the streets after a long winter of hibernation. I also love that spring is both a symbol of new beginnings and a celebration of all that was learned over the past academic year. And I love knowing that in just a few short months my kiddos will be home for summer vacation.
But as much as I love all these things, I also know that if the speed at which the last two months passed by is any indication, I will be writing about the last day of school, family vacations, tennis matches and summer bucket lists before I know it. So, in an effort to slow down a little bit, live more in the moment and enjoy the present day, I want to focus on making this week, right now, amazing.
The fact is, every week (every day in fact, but I think that trying to make every day amazing might be just a little too much pressure for me right now) has the potential to be amazing. And it is up to us to make it so.
Don’t let the word amazing scare you. You get to define what amazing means for you. Your amazing is not necessarily the same thing as my amazing. And what’s amazing this week may not be what’s amazing next week. But I guarantee you, if you take a moment to think about it, and a second moment to plan how you will make it happen, there is something amazing about this week.
So, I started this post by sharing that for me this week is amazing simply because it is the beginning of March. But in order to capitalize on the joy that this season brings me, I am going to take some intentional action. I am going to set aside thirty minutes today to plan my March so that I make sure I take the time to appreciate all the things I love about this month. Rather than letting life just happen around me (because that clearly has not been working thus far), I am going to experiment with daily time-blocking and goal-setting so that I can be both more productive and more carefree. I’ll let you know how it goes.
How about you – how will you make this week amazing?
